The Public Institution Pula Film Festival has announced a public tender for the creation of the visual identity of the 67th Pula Film Festival.
Pula Film Festival, the oldest Croatian film festival held annually in the Pula Arena since 1954. When it was founded in 1954, it was simply called the Film Festival, and in 1958 it became known as the Yugoslav Film Festival, and soon became the most important national film festival in SFR Yugoslavia. Since 1961, it has been officially called the Festival of Yugoslav Feature Film in Pula.
Over the following decades, the festival gained significant international recognition along with the Yugoslav film industry, which had continued to thrive since the 1960s. Many film production companies were soon established throughout the former Yugoslavia, so the industry created about 20 new feature films for national distribution each year. These films competed for numerous awards at the festival because the award categories and the concept of the festival were modeled according to the Academy Awards.
The proposal of a visual identity is based on a combination of tradition and modernism, connecting the beginning of the festival in 1954 with a constellation, ie a set of stars connected by imaginary lines that show a certain outline.
This year, the Pula Film Festival celebrates the 67th edition of the festival. The production of visuals is based on the values of history / tradition, with an emphasis on the decades-long holding of the festival. The number of stars represents the founding year of the festival, so the total contains 1954 circular elements. It took so many years for the festival to take place, and since then the pattern number 67 has been created.
The basic element of visual identity is the number 67, which was created through a constellation that served as inspiration in the creation of visual identity. A constellation is a group of stars that forms an imaginary outline or pattern on a celestial sphere. People used them to connect stories about their beliefs, experiences, creations, or mythology. The sign can be used separately as an illustrated number or in combination with circular elements. The basic idea is elaborated in compatible variations where cases of different uses of the sign are presented.
Identity is played with the numbers 67, and through the elements of the Pula Arena they upgrade the visual and communication towards the audience becomes recognizable.
The slogan is associated with the sign and a modified typography is created that is used separately from the sign as a separate element, except where this is not possible. Modified typography can also be used for major event / award titles, etc. In its communication, the visual remains dignified, discreet and informative by clearly displaying all the necessary information. The visual can be elaborated through the timeline of the event (timeline) using lines to show the course of the event, history, signpost / signaling, etc ..
The color system is shown through a gradient that symbolizes the night sky before dawn that exudes calm and dignity.
